As a Nuclear Stockpile Maintenance Technician, you will play a vital role in providing both administrative and technical support to the NE-NL Logistics & Maintenance Division, Maintenance Branch (NE-NLMM).

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) Executive Agent in the management of the Limited Life Component (LLC) program for nuclear weapons, ensuring its efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assisting in the oversight and management of LLC and alteration (Alt) kit definitions for each configuration, as well as the associated Group X base spare kits, contributing to improved inventory accuracy.
  • Analyzing nuclear weapon stockpile data for assets under DoD custody, particularly regarding LLC expiration dates, and developing fiscal year-based utilization schedules that support strategic planning.
  • Formulating monthly LLC distribution requirements and communicating these to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), the Federal LLC Manager, and, when necessary, to the NNSA NA-122.1 LLC Manager, fostering collaboration and transparency.

  • Collaborating with the Executive Secretary of the Nuclear Transportation Working Group (NTWG) to plan and execute semi-annual meetings, which includes crafting announcements, updating agendas, tracking action items, and facilitating discussions.
  • Engaging with the Office of Secure Transportation (OST) mission planners and Military Services to address air and ground transportation requirements for LLCs, weapon systems, and other major assembly (OMA) needs.
  • Conducting thorough reviews of processes related to the addition, modification, or repair of nuclear weapons, as well as of maintenance support equipment and related testing and handling tools.
  • Supporting the management of the Joint Nuclear Weapons System (JNWPS) policy development by researching and drafting documents, coordinating feedback for approval, maintaining source data, and ensuring effective distribution of technical publications.
  • Making well-informed recommendations for updates to nuclear weapons maintenance policy and guidance in collaboration with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, DTRA, Military Services, and Combatant Commanders.
  • Preparing timely technical procedures when safety, reliability, or operational concerns are of utmost importance.
  • Contributing to the formulation of the DoD's positions on issues related to nuclear weapons LLC program management and supply matters.
  • Assisting Nuclear Weapons Maintenance Managers in preproduction planning, evaluation, proofing, and the introduction of LLCs, containers, and equipment pertinent to nuclear weapons systems and associated operations.
  • Demonstrating the capability to independently support Department Maintenance Support Managers as needed.
  • Exhibiting the ability to review, research, and interpret high-level DoD and DOE directives and documents, incorporating relevant insights into JNWPS technical procedures.
