Culmen International is seeking a skilled Equipment Commissioning Specialist to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in overseeing the lifecycle of radiation portal monitor (RPM) system commissioning and decommissioning projects in the DHS Radiation Portal Monitor Program (RPMP).

 

This is a remote/hybrid role with 70% travel in the domestic U.S. (TX, CA, WA, MI, SC, VA, FL, MS, NJ, and NY). Additional travel up to 2 times a year to client site in Bethesda, MD for meetings and training may be required.

 

This position is subject to 75% outdoor/25% indoor working conditions on-site in all elements of weather and land with an incentivized annual salary.

 

This role is responsible for the startup, testing, and validation of systems and equipment at client sites. The ideal candidate will ensure that systems and equipment are installed properly and function according to design specifications and client expectations. Travel to customer sites is required to provide on-site technical support and ensure optimal system performance.  

What You’ll Do in Your New Role

  • Travel (up to 70%) to various locations in the U.S. for site surveys, equipment inspection, testing, and commissioning start-up activities
  • Install and configure integrated hardware/software systems at customer locations (e.g., traffic gates, alarms, cameras and optical readers, switches)
  • Verify LAN and Network connections during Commissioning phase
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network connectivity issues
  • Perform the initial system set-up testing procedures, conduct functional and performance testing of equipment
  • Document commissioning procedures, test results, and punch lists to compile final site commissioning reports
  • Decommission existing equipment before replacement or upgrade, to include preparing compliant disposition plan with documented disposal
  • Ensure adherence to documented site SOPs, overseeing the installation, removal, and operational continuity of mechanical equipment
  • Review engineering designs and electrical, network wiring diagrams with design engineers, construction general contractors, and client teams to ensure newly installed detection and related ancillary equipment meet performance and design standards
  • Provide limited training for team members and clients to familiarize them with new system operation and maintenance features installed in the upgrade
  • Review technical contract deliverables and track/report on project milestones and program activities.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly and activity project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues/problems, recommendations, test results and lessons learned
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (8+ Years of Experience) 
• Travel 70% of the time with variable notice. Prolonged periods working on-site at possible outdoor locations
• Must be able to work outdoors in all elements of weather and land
• Expertise in test and commissioning processes, technical experience in scanning and integrated /networked systems or similar other technologies
• Knowledge of common network protocols and communication standards
• Understanding of LAN networking concepts (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, switching, routing)
• Experience with network troubleshooting tools and techniques
• Excellent communication skills for directing vendors, contractors and interfacing with clients

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:


• Ability to lift equipment up to 25-40 pounds
• Comfortable working in various environments (office, remote and outside in all weather conditions)
• Willingness to travel up to 70% of the time within assigned territory
• Ability to work flexible hours including 8-12 hours and weekends when travelling.

 

Desired Qualifications

Recent Field Service Technician experience
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
• Preferred experience working with U.S. federal government clients
• Preferred familiarity with U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations
• Experience in commissioning or maintaining critical electrical and mechanical systems
