About the Role

Culmen International is seeking an experienced Research Scientist  to join our team in Silver Springs, MD.

What You’ll Do in Your New Role

  • Management of the Biochemistry Section within the DDR
  • Assists in oversight of the daily operations of the laboratories within the DDR, including activities of the technical staff and tracking of laboratory materials, reagents and consumables
  • Organizes and participates in clinical and pre-clinical studies with a focus on conception, manufacturing, testing and evaluation of enteric countermeasures
  • Provides training on SOPs and SSPs in support of pre-clinical and clinical studies
  • Contributes to the analysis and interpretation of data and results from assays
  • Aids in the development and establishment of new procedures to assess the potency and composition of associated with enteric countermeasures. Contributes to writing and submitting reports, manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations
  • Leads and participates in lab meetings, Department meetings and journal club activities
  • Assists in the recruitment of new personnel by working with the Contracting Company
  • Communicates with internal staff and external customers. Assists in managing collection, maintenance, analysis, and evaluation of data used in grant submissions, presentations, and publications
  • Assists in ensuring all required reports are completed and submitted on time

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in chemistry
  • at least 15 years combined experience in protein biochemistry, plot-scale production of Gram-negative bacteria, protein, and lipopolysaccharide purification, bio analytics (surface plasmon resonance, LC-MS)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with scientific team management and junior leadership, fluency with Windows operating systems, Apple Operating Systems, Microsoft Office software suite, Statistical analysis software packages (e.g. Prism), reference management systems (e.g. Endnote), software packages associated with instrumentation utilized in a biochemistry laboratory (e.g. MassLynx)
