Culmen International is looking for a Land Border Security Trainer and Advisor part time consultant to deliver training, mentoring, and capacity building for a Department of State-funded land border security program in North Africa. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of border security best practices, be solutions-oriented, and be willing to travel for 1-2 weeks every two months. We are looking for a team player who can manage a large group of stakeholders and deliver results.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise
You will bring essential border security subject matter expertise to the team, providing timely advice and feedback around training, equipping, and inter-agency information sharing. You will be expected to contribute to meetings with the client and the program recipient where appropriate. You will also be expected to contribute information on activities undertaken to support regular program reporting. There will be opportunities to participate/lead multi-stakeholder/country workshops and meetings on this subject area.
Train and Mentor Staff
A key part of this role will be to train both trainers and border security units in screening, checkpoint management, interdiction, patrolling, use of equipment and technologies, anti-smuggling techniques, supervision, quality control and information sharing. A large part of this program would include the mentoring of local trainers to become independent in delivering high quality training internally. There would also be an element of mentoring managers and supervisors to achieve best practice and implement learning.
Develop policies and best practices.
You will support the program recipient in reviewing, developing and implementing standard operating procedures, strategies and best practices across all aspects of border security. You will work with a range of local agencies to improve cooperation and align the approach. You will support continued improvement by undertaking assessments and quality assurance of border security practices.
Additional Information
The expected level of effort for this role is approximately 60-80 days per year with a three year duration, approximately 75% of this time will be spent on the ground, with the remaining time for preparation and follow up work from home. The salary range for this role is $650-$950 per day based on previous skills and experience.
