About the Role

Culmen is seeking a Microbiologist to support our mission in Lamdshuhl, Germany.

 

The Microbiologist supports laboratory research, diagnostic testing, and surveillance activities related to infectious diseases of military relevance. The incumbent performs microbiological analyses, culture-based testing, molecular assays, and laboratory data interpretation while ensuring compliance with quality assurance and biosafety requirements.

 

What You’ll Do in Your New Role

  • Perform microbiological testing on environmental, clinical, and research specimens.
  • Conduct bacterial, fungal, and parasitological culture identification and characterization.
  • Perform molecular biology procedures including PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and sequencing preparation.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation, test records, and quality control logs.
  • Analyze laboratory data and prepare technical reports.
  • Support research projects focused on infectious disease surveillance and biodefense.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and biosafety standards.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in laboratory accreditation and quality management activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • 5+years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR analysis.
  • Must have knowledge of public health policies and regulations and the fundamental principles of biology, and practices applicable to the performance of biological analyses using various analyzer systems.
  • Ability to identify potential hazards found during biological analyses where processes are of a conventional nature and literature on the hazard is readily available.
  • Must be able to investigate and troubleshoot methods during the analyses of samples
  • Experience with microbiological and molecular laboratory techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to pass a background screening.
  • Fluent in English

Desired Qualifications

  • Local Nationals residing in Germany
  • Master's degree in a biological science discipline.
  • Experience supporting military or government laboratories.
  • Familiarity with ISO 15189, CLIA, CAP, or equivalent standards.
